Birdwood's Mucuna

There are many colors of Birdwood's Mucuna, white, pink, purple and white, and deep purple. The common varieties in Hong Kong include the white grazing sparrow (Birdwood's Mucuna) and the purple and white grazing sparrow (Macrocarpa's Mucuna). As for the pink grazing sparrow (Macrocarpa's Mucuna), and the dark purple grazing sparrow (Evergreen's Mucuna) are relatively rare locally. Mucuna flowers bloom around Ching Ming every year, from March to April, and are Grade II protected plants in Hong Kong. The flower shape of the Birdwood's Mucuna is very similar to that of the Lonchura Oryzivora, hence the name. The grass grows quickly, the vines are thick, and the stems can reach more than 30 meters in length. The flowers are hung on the old stems, with two or thirty flowers per string, and the strings hang down. However, the general flowering vines are more than 30 years old, and they will wither as soon as they are exposed to the sun. Therefore, the flower is extremely precious, and its flowers can be used as medicinal materials, and have medicinal effects such as treating menstrual pain, anemia, clearing the meridians, strengthening bones and muscles, and reducing swelling by external application. However, its seeds contain poisonous starch and are not suitable for consumption.
